Apparitions

This was one of the longest and most entrapping nightmares I have had in quite some time.  I was quite intrigued by this one mostly because my nightmares are typically repetitive or what you might think of as "progressive nightmares" with common elements.  This particular dream, however, was frighteningly original and had me feeling anxious long after waking.

The dream began with me walking around the house that I grew up in so many years ago.  The old hardwood floors, my cozy bedroom with blood red walls, and of course my sister and mother existing only in the periphery of my subconscious nightmare.  As I sat in my room lit only by the full moon shining through my over sized windows, I noticed my neighbors bedroom light was on and there was something going on inside.  There were people in the bedroom wearing dark robes of some kind, and they were all surrounding a newborn child.  I knew my neighbors were God-fearing in a cultish sort of way, but this was something entirely different and extreme from what I had previously seen.  One of the young daughters, whom I recognized after she turned towards the window, walked over to draw the shade in the bedroom.
What I saw and heard in the long moments following chilled me to the very core of my soul.  Through the drawn shade of the neighbor's bedroom, light played with shadow in a frighteningly impossible way.  Strange sounds came from the house, and then flashes of light followed by thunderous banging and screams of terror.  Suddenly it all stopped.  I realized that I was now kneeling on the floor of my room with just the whites of my eyes peering out my window wondering what I was going to see or hear next.  Silence and darkness ensued in the house for what seemed a lifetime.  But then, suddenly, my neighbor's front door flew open and slammed against the side of the house, shattering a window and falling off its hinges.  Out of the darkness walked the youngest daughter of the family that lived there, followed slowly by her brother and older sister, mother and father.  They all trod forever slowly together out onto their front lawn, each dawned with a dark cloak.  Before I could gather what was happening, they all had turned simultaneously towards my window.  I ducked below my windowsill and all the fear in the world entered my body.  How could they have seen me or known that I was watching?  It took me minutes to regain the courage to poke my head up to look again.  Only when I started to hear strange thumping noises did my curiosity overcome my fear.  As I peered out again I saw the limp bodies of my neighbors' family being lifted in the air by some strange force and then being slammed into the ground like a child playing with a rag doll.  They were constantly being picked up into the air and thrown down again, now into the bushes, some onto the porch steps, others on the driveway, limbs being contorted, blood dripping, and bones cracking.  I watched in utter terror as the youngest girl's body finally came to a sudden rest  hanging off the front porch with the rest of her family scattered across the front yard.

Nightmares that Hurt

The other night I had a nightmare that left me in actual physical pain.  I was lying in a field of long green grass that somewhat resembled and unkempt countryside meadow.  As I lay looking at the sun I hear a snake approaching from down by my feet.  I looked down to see a King Rattle Snake slithering up to my bare feet.  The enormous black snake hissed and rattled its tail as it slithered over my ankles and up the left side of my body.  Anticipating its strike, I tense up and stare down the rattle snake as it continues up my left side and approaches my neck.  The black monster slithers over my shoulder and stops to inspect the pulsating veins in my neck.  I almost suffocate from holding my breath, but the snake finally moved on down the right side of my body.  It continued to return down towards my feet.  Just as its head reaches my toes, I released a swift kick toward the monster to repel it from doing any damage.  During which, I find that I am awake and kicking full speed towards the wall next to my bed.  My foot slammed into the baseboard and dented the wall behind it evoking a scream of pain.  I would rather have let the snake bite me, but at least I didn't break my foot.

Dreamgirl

Last night I had a dream that I met a girl and fell for her, hard.  The following is how the dream progressed.

It started out with me leaving work for the day.  As I'm leaving I notice a girl who I've never seen or spoken to before.  I stop to talk to her without knowing exactly what I was doing or why.  She has a toxic laugh, awkward charm, beautiful lips, and that's just the beginning.  We start to talk, talking leads to the hint of a spark, and that spark led us to a warm setting at the nearest restaurant lounge.  We take a seat by the fireplace and carry on our laughable conversation about food, hobbies, and friends.  Before long we became completely lost in time, space, and in each other.  Eventually, nothing else existed but her face and mine, her hands and my hands, and soon, her lips and mine.  How did this happen?  We wonder separately.
Before we know it the restaurant is closing and we've been sitting for hours listening to each other's lips struggle make out words as our minds race through millions of thoughts per minute.  We don't care, nothing could tear us apart at this point except for us.  Whispers in her ear, soft hands caress mine, and the sun begins to rise.  How did this happen?  We finally utter aloud.
Leaving turned out to be the hardest thing I've done in ages.  She won't let me go.  I won't let her.  Nothing matters.  Planets seem to shrink in size.  The World disappears and It's just her.  How can I be sure?  Is it real?  Am I finally feeling what I've always hoped I would one day feel?  How did this happen?
The dream continues on and days and nights fly by like they are all part of one long, singular experience.  The romance lingers on into what seems to be the end of time.  I've never wanted to cry in happiness, yet be the strongest I've ever been.  Suddenly, the dream ends, and  I was saddened to find that what I was beginning to think was real, was really just a dream.  Eventually my sadness fades and I find myself happy to have experienced the dream at all, and hoping that perhaps, one day, the dream will come true.

Peasants

I would like to start off with a dream of my own, one which I thought was particularly bizarre.

In this dream I was a lowly peasant boy living and working on the land of a beautiful young queen.  While I was working one day on the land, the queen rode through with her servants on horseback and saw me.  She spoke silently to her followers and then pointed directly at me.  After which, she rode on, and one of her followers picked me up and put me on the back of his horse where we followed the queen back to the castle.  Once we arrived at the castle the queen escorted me on a tour of the halls, rooms, and gardens of the monstrous estate.  I was walking behind the her highness in my rags with two servants following close behind as she spoke.  At the end of the tour she explained to me that we were to be married and that I was to live with her in the castle.  She did not explain why but only told me I did not have a choice in the matter.
After explaining my fate, my entire family suddenly appeared, and then we all appeared together in what seemed to be a foreshadow of the future.  We all sat in a big living room with tapestries, lofty ceilings, stained glass windows, and a Christmas tree next to a huge fireplace.  I sat next to my queen with what appeared to be my two children sitting opening presents on the floor beside us while my family and their children were doing the same scattered about the big room.  I saw that I was happy, and then I woke from my dream.
